Switching to Nontoxic Everything

I had no idea how many chemicals nearly everything I came in contact with on a daily basis there was. From my shower curtain, to my makeup, to my water, I was shocked to begin learning what I put in or on my body, and my families bodies.

This started a few months ago when I learned skincare and makeup products contain silicone which is not good for your skin. Silicone sits on the surface of your skin, and fill up the pores to create a smooth look. This is why primers, moisturizers and foundations usually have silicone in them. The same goes for shampoo and conditioners. Brands are trying to get you that smooth finish, however, silicone on your hair will push out water, compromising the strength of your hair.

Personal care products like toothpaste, floss, lotions, deodorants, etc. are also important to be aware of.

Clean skincare & makeup:
Milk Makeup
Beauty Counter
Dime Beauty
Love, Beauty, Planet (lotions)

Clean (or at least more clean) haircare:
Living Proof
Attitude (also great products for babies)

Clean personal care:
Desert Essence Tea Tree Dental Floss
Dr. Bronner's toothpaste
Native deodorant (now has men's scents too!)

Next I learned about plastics and reheating plastics, like Tupperware. Plastics release more chemicals when they are heated, so I quickly switched to glass storage containers. I slowly started to replace plastic cups and plates with bamboo cups and plates, my plastic water filter to a glass water filter, and my plastic water bottles with a stainless steel water bottle. I also got a different shower curtain liner!
"Many plastic shower curtains are made with polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a compound consisting of a variety of scary toxins. These PVC toxins, which includes dioxins, phthalates, ethylene dichloride, lead, BPAs, and more are released as a result of the heat and moisture from the shower breaking down the plastic liner."

Replacing plastics:
Glass storage containers
Bamboo cups and plates
Glass or stainless steel water filter
Stainless steel water bottle
Nylon or hemp shower curtain liner

Then I started using the EWG App to help me find what products I was using in my home that I should replace. Things like dishwashing detergent, multi-surface cleaner, and even lotions.

Cleaning products:
Attitude (laundry detergent, dish detergent, bathroom cleaner, baby products, shampoo, conditioner, basically everything) Use this link for $10 off your first order.
Puracy (multi-surface cleaner, dish soap)
Love, Home, Planet
Seventh Generation (not all Seventh Generation products pass the EWG test, so please check which ones!)
Everyone for Every Body (hand soap)

Even candles were pumping toxins into my home without even realizing it. I switched to beeswax candles, and the Pura plug-in fragrance device. Pura allows you to choose two, nontoxic, smells to the device at a time, and you are able to control the intensity and duration the fragrances from the App on your phone.

Then I learned that your pots and pans, including baking sheets, can be filled with chemicals!

Safe pots and pans:
Green Pan
Stoneware cooking and baking items
Stainless steel baking sheets

Let me know if you use or switch to any of these products!
